I grew up believing in the American Dream because my parents believed in it first.
They came to this country undocumented in the 1970s, built a life through labor and faith, raised six children, and eventually became citizens decades later. Their story is not unique and yet, it is rarely told with honesty, dignity, or nuance.
As immigration rhetoric grows louder and more polarized, I found myself asking who gets to claim the American Dream, and who gets written out of it. American Dreams is my attempt to answer that question by listening to the people who actually lived it.
Through intimate interviews, family memories, and reenactments, the film reframes immigration not as a crisis, but as a continuum shaped by sacrifice, love, and perseverance. This documentary is not an argument. It’s a record! A reminder that behind every policy and every headline, there is a family like mine.
